EXTERIOR CAR DETAILING / LOOK GOOD OUT THERE

Exterior car detailing.
A cleaner reflection.

A useful exterior request starts with what is on the surface and the condition underneath. Discuss washing, wheels, glass and finish care with a provider who can assess your vehicle and location.

THE DETAILS MATTER

A considered clean.
From every angle.

Cleaning, decontamination, polishing and protection are separate scope decisions.

01

Separate loose dirt from stubborn contamination.

Road film, insects, pollen and wheel buildup may need different attention. Point out rough-feeling paint, spots or deposits and ask whether more than routine washing is appropriate. The provider should evaluate the surface before choosing a method.

02

Be specific about wash, wax and sealant.

A wash-and-wax request is different from polishing or installing a ceramic coating. Ask which surfaces are cleaned, whether a protective product is included and what product or process the quote describes. Avoid comparing package names without the actual scope.

03

Protect the expectations, too.

Washing does not mean paint scratches, chips or etching will disappear. Tell the detailer about matte paint, previous repairs and existing coatings. For visible swirls or dullness, start a separate paint-correction discussion rather than expecting a basic exterior clean to resolve them.

BEFORE YOU BOOK

What to discuss in an exterior quote.

Paint and exterior glass

Identify the panels and glass you want cleaned, the contamination you can see and any finish-specific care instructions. Ask how the provider will handle existing protection and delicate surfaces.

Wheels, tires and trim

Confirm whether wheel faces, inner barrels, tire cleaning and trim care are included. Different wheel finishes and exposed components may need different approaches; a vague “wheel clean” is not a complete scope.

Optional protection

If wax or sealant is proposed, ask for the product, preparation and maintenance guidance. A spray sealant should not be represented as the same service as a separately prepared, installed coating.

A CLOSER LOOK

An exterior detail can combine cleaning, surface assessment and a protective product. Ask which of those stages is actually included before comparing prices.

Understand the proposed sequence.

A useful discussion follows the vehicle from its starting condition to its intended finish: inspect, clean, reassess, then decide whether anything beyond washing is justified. Ask the detailer to distinguish loose dirt from a persistent deposit or an actual defect. Request a test before agreeing to an additional treatment on an unfamiliar surface.

Water spots, bonded contamination and swirl marks can look similar from a distance but call for different assessments. The quote should explain what is being addressed, what will remain and whether a protective product follows. “Wash and wax” should identify both the cleaning scope and the product category.

What a finish-focused handoff should answer.

Ask to see the vehicle in useful light, including the areas that motivated the appointment. Confirm which marks were deposits, which appear to be defects and which require a different specialist. Do not use a wet panel or heavy shine alone as proof that a scratch was removed.

For wheels, specify whether you mean face cleaning, reachable inner surfaces or a separate treatment; see wheel and tire care. For the paint, compare correction and protection before adding a coating to the request. The aim is a clear scope suited to the vehicle, not the longest possible list of products.

A CLEARER QUOTE

Exterior detailing
questions.

Is a hand wash the same as exterior detailing?

Not necessarily. An exterior detail may involve additional surface work, but the term alone does not establish inclusions. Compare the cleaning areas, preparation, protection and exclusions in the actual quote.

Will a wash and wax remove swirl marks?

Do not assume that it will. Cleaning, appearance enhancement and defect correction have different goals. Ask the provider to inspect the finish and explain whether polishing is suitable.

Can you clean a lifted truck or large SUV?

Include vehicle height, size, wheel type and access in your request. A mobile provider must confirm safe access, equipment and any additional charge for the actual vehicle.

Can a ceramic-coated car be detailed?

Ask for maintenance that follows the installed product’s care guidance and tell the provider which coating is on the vehicle, if known. Coating maintenance is a different request from installing a new coating.
